You've Got Mail

Went to the mailbox today and pulled out the usual junk. Except, there were two more surprises waitng for me. Since I do online reviews, materials are sent to me. Got a Deana Carter CD along with a book. Elephant Gnosis by David Kettle. The cover alone gave me pause-it has an elephant which is colored pink. There is also a red jewel on its forehead. It almost looks as if the creature was on LSD. Still.., since I agreed to review said item, had to at least take a look at what lay inside. What a bizarre book! It takes the self ramblings of a grandiose elephant and shows off the elephant' s superior intelligence. Kettle takes some portions and develops them into a semi-coherent story, but there is no discernable plot. Just in case you'd like to see for yourself, it can be found at Amazon under the code 0971997713.

The Council has Spoken

The jury came back from their deliberations with a recommendation of death for Scott Peterson. In a way, this was inevitable. After all, they already found him guilty of double murder. However, did it really serve the purpose? I tend to think the death penalty does nothing for the good of the defendant. What it does do is make society feel better. That makes sense when it came to Timothy McVeigh and Oklahoma City. So many people died, and plenty of children brought the numbers to an almost level few are able to describe. Cmon news teams, let it go. It's been hashed out long enough. Until an appeal is filed, nothing to see, folks.

Nominations came out recently for the Golden Globe Awards. Not too surprising in a few cases. Desperate Housewives garnered several acting nominations. Would someone explain to me why cast and production staff alike feel compelled to give away the plot before the show airs? This show started out really nicely, but it has gotten away from the main storyline of the reason behind Mary Alice's suicide.
Boston Legal, perhaps the best show of the fall season at least got a well deserved nomination for James Spader's portrayal of Alan Shore. (Oh Santa, if you could wrap Spader up in a great big bow and leave him under my tree, I'd be greatly appreciative ;) This show should get the award this year for The Best Show You're not Watching. No wonder. ABC goes out of its way to ignore this perceived ugly stepsister by running promos for BL only after the two shows preceeding it, and very few at that. Come on! BL has the acting and writing miles ahead of several other shows. The verbal loquaciousness is reason alone to watch. Plus, the guys on Boston Legal are best described in one word. HOT!

TV Memories

I recently saw a show about the top 100 television moments. Granted, I missed the first 20 when counting backwards. However, I thought of a few of my own. 1) the Mars rover landings. Those could have taken one wrong bounce and gone kaput. 2) Frasier-when Niles finally realizes that he and Maris are not meant for each other. 3) On that note, the Frasier when Niles proposes to Daphne, who he has been in love with from the time they met. 4) Now, the show covered Who shot J.R.? from Dallas. They should have thrown in discovering Kristen as shedunit as a separate episode. 5) the series finale of any popular show.
